MIDWEST'S LARGEST PROCESSOR OF WASTE

RRT’s positive alternatives to traditional waste disposal means that approximately 400,000 tons of Metro Area waste is used to create 43 megawatts of energy, rather than going to a landfill. Through this recovery process, RRT recycles more than 14,000 tons of metals and produces enough fuel to power more than 22,000 homes each year.

OUR UNIQUE PROCESS

Get an inside look at how RRT is turning waste into energy and fueling our future.

From 375,000 tons of waste RRT produces enough fuel to power more than 22,000 homes each year. The fuel is burned at Two Xcel power facilities in central Minnesota. The energy is considered “baseload power” – a dependable, reliable source of energy that can be distributed by the electric utilities any time of day. Other renewable energy alternatives, such as solar or wind power, are only available when the sun shines or the wind blows.
